Welcome to Alice In Cookingland! Married to a chef, I obviously have a strong appreciation of food. But I only started cooking in my adult years. My mom is a quadriplegic due to a car accident she sustained when she was 25, rendering her physically unable to cook. While she’s my hero in SO many ways, the accident prevented my mom from ever learning to cook on her own. Therefore, I wasn’t raised in the kitchen. We lived off of frozen, pre-cooked meals, and dinners family made for us. It wasn’t until I graduated from college, away from dorm meal plans, that I realized I would eventually have to learn on my own.
But every time I looked at a recipe book, I was so confused. There were no pictures, and the terms might as well have been in another language. Then the world of blogging started growing, and that’s when my interest finally peaked. It opened up a whole new world for me. I was so inspired that I decided to start my own blog back in 2007, when blogging was still very new.
I have come a long way since that first blog: from learning how to hard boil an egg (pretty basic I know), to realizing that “broil” was not a typo for boil. My lack of knowledge about food when I started cooking was astounding. I was dating my now husband at the time, and he still stuck with me even through all my silly questions.
I tell everyone, if I can do it, so can you! Don’t be afraid or intimated to try something new. Make mistakes, that’s how you learn and get better! I still have a lot to learn myself, but I am just so honored that you are here and I hope you join me on my journey.
