Breakfast smoothie with raspberries, bananas and spinach

Don’t let the spinach fool you! Once you try this recipe, you won’t believe there’s actually spinach in there!

I have a few go-to breakfast smoothie recipes like this one and this one, but I have found myself making this recipe with spinach in it. I finally found a way to balance all the flavors so you can’t even tell there’s spinach in there!

I realize that raspberries can be more on the pricey side if you’re one of those people who analyzes their grocery bill (#guilty). But sometimes it’s just worth the splurge. And one package will last one person an entire week of this smoothie if you’re making it every weekday. Of course, you can totally hold back on the raspberries because the banana is pretty sweet, but I like to mix things up and use only half of a banana since it does have more sugar than the average fruit.

I also love that this recipe balances super foods like cacao powder and chia seeds.

For reference, I used this protein powder. The chia seeds, a more pricey item again, is also optional. It just adds more fiber.

Here’s a bonus tip: If you make your smoothies in the morning, peel and freeze your bananas the night or week before. That way, it keeps the smoothie nice and cold without using ice. Also, since I only use half of a banana at a time, I store the other half in the freezer to use in future recipes!

  1. Throw all the ingredients into a blender and blend. Serve immediately, or make the night before and serve in an air-tight container. Fill it up to the top so it has less oxygen and stay more fresh.
